American Musicians of The 20 century

In our American culture class, we learned about two musicians of the 20 century, Billie Holiday and Norah Jones. Their lives were very different, but both became very successful. Holiday had a tough childhood. She had problems because of poverty. In contrast, Norah’s parents are a famous musician and dancer. She was able to get a good education. According to the their different lives, they also had different musical training. Billie Holiday learned music form musicians around her and created her own style of singing. Norah Jones did have piano lessons and learned jazz piano at University of North Texas. Finally, their musical style is different, but they are mainly jazz singers. They often sing quiet and emotional songs as well. However, Billie Holiday only sang jazz songs. Jones sings country, pop songs, and faster pop songs. I really admire both singers’ music. Although they have different lives, training and musical style, they both appeal to me a lot.
