American Musicians of The 20 century

In our American culture class, we learned about two musicians of the 20 century, Billie Holiday and Norah Jones. Their lives were very different, but both became very successful. Holiday had a tough childhood. She had problems because of poverty. In contrast, Norah’s parents are a famous musician and dancer. She was able to get a good education. According to the their different lives, they also had different musical training. Billie Holiday learned music form musicians around her and created her own style of singing. Norah Jones did have piano lessons and learned jazz piano at University of North Texas. Finally, their musical style is different, but they are mainly jazz singers. They often sing quiet and emotional songs as well. However, Billie Holiday only sang jazz songs. Jones sings country, pop songs, and faster pop songs. I really admire both singers’ music. Although they have different lives, training and musical style, they both appeal to me a lot.

Twentieth Century Ameerican Art

On Friday class, we learned about three famous American artists in 20 century. We enjoyed their terrific art works and discussed their biographies. Louise Nevelson was a sculptor. She used wood to create her art sculptures and also refreshed the art appearance for American women. Second, Ansel Adams was a landscape photographer who made up photography into a recognized shape of art. Finally, we talked about Jackson Pollack who was an Abstract Expressionist. His art style was throwing paint on a canvas. It was really unique and amazing. Those artists are still well-known until today. We were really happy to learn some American arts from them.

Debate in American culture class

In United States, before citizens vote the president, there are American political debates between Republicans and Democrats. Last week, we read both side policies. Our team supported Democrat candidate Mr. Obama. We indicated that Obama wouldn’t like to make a war in Iran. Romney predicted that Iran would develop nuclear weapon, so he wanted to make a war in Iran to stop they invent this weapon. Obama thought that it’s just a prediction. We can wait and we don’t have to make a war now. War cannot solve problems. We also agreed with Obama about education and health system as well. We were really happy to learn American political culture during the fascinating debate.

Do you think that debate is important before voting?
